The Hive is a South Austin venue that has evolved into a family-friendly coffee shop and bar with extensive outdoor play areas, making it excellent for kids' parties with space for children to run around while parents socialize. The venue offers multiple indoor and outdoor sections, live music, games, and a garden area, though food quality and coffee consistency receive mixed reviews. Staff friendliness and unique amenities like special events for kids (makers markets, story sessions, live children's music) are strong selling points for families.

The Hive Review The Hive is a coffee shop primarily designed with parents and young children in mind. The outdoor area is massive, featuring a large playground with slides, toys, and plenty of space for kids to run around. Parents can relax, drink coffee, and socialize while their children play freely, making it a great community spot. Beyond the play area, there’s even a vegetable garden outside, which I hope is used for their kitchen. The indoor space is also quite large, divided into different sections that serve various purposes—some areas are great for working, while others are more suited for casual conversations. One particularly interesting feature is a dedicated conference-style room with a large table and chairs, something I haven’t seen in other cafés. It seems like a great option for small meetings or gatherings. The menu is simple, offering a few variations of croissants and other light options. The coffee is average—not bad, but not the main focus here. This place is more about the experience and atmosphere rather than gourmet food or specialty coffee. The furniture is older, and the design isn’t modern at all, but that fits the laid-back nature of the café. The real highlight is the variety of spaces and the unique setup for families, making it stand out from other coffee shops. If you’re a parent looking for a place to enjoy coffee while your kids stay entertained, The Hive is a great choice.

Delicious coffee, relaxing vibe, kid friendly, dog friendly, indoor/outdoor seating with a play area.. need I say more? Bring your pups & babies, caffeinate and load up on delicious baked goods (or a breakfast sandwich or two) all while lounging on the most comfortable couches & chairs. Did not check if dogs were allowed indoors so I'd call ahead to check if it's too hot out. Bonus points: Vegan taco truck outside, variety of not-coffee drinks, board games for older kiddos and adults. Don't be surprised if you run into us here because we will literally LIVE here from now on.

We had a great Saturday morning here. We attended a story session, enjoyed some pancakes (and mama a mimosa) and playing outside. The staff was friendly and quick and the guest reader was fantastic! Thanks for a great time! We can't wait to come back!

Two young baristas were very kind. Latte drinks were not great. Not a fan of the commercial syrups. The playground was very confusing & felt unsafe for our toddlers & smell was overpowered with mothballs. This place has a lot going on. We drank maybe half our lattes & headed out. My recommendations. Work on signature coffee drinks, homemade syrups. Clean up the back outdoor patio, maybe one big open & even area for kids to run around. Less is more.

Quite literally the worst matcha latte and burger I’ve ever had in all of the Austin area. Very disappointing experience and the service wasn’t great. I felt like an inconvenience ordering my meal. Do not recommend.

If you would like to pay $13.79 for a single bloody Mary. This is the spot for you. Poor customer service from a man or woman. Couldn't exactly tell. But yea. Drink prices are super expensive. Don't waste your time when you can go get a $6 bloody Mary at any bar down the street.
